Haitham Khatib 27. 6. 2016 -  Bil'in - PLEASE keep following my Facebook Pages, and sharing our situation with the world! We NEED you more than ever! I am more and more concerned for my own SAFETY and my fellow villagers in Bil’in! I feel I am more personally being targeted now by the soldiers for my own role as a photographer and journalist.

Our village has successfully gained the attention and a following of both Palestinians and Internationals. I believe the soldiers are now more aggressively trying to stop us from from getting our story out the world - they intend to try to prevent our filming and documenting of the Israeli occupation soldier assaults and crimes committed against us!

The soldiers know me well! I was imprisoned at 15 for 2 years for throwing a single rock outside my schoolyard in an altercation with solders who the week before gunned down our village ice-cream man, in cold blood! (No soldiers were hurt). I have ever since been trying to protect my family and my village by photographing; filming, recording and documenting their crimes, and incitement and brutality against us! My cameras are truly my only weapon of self-defence!

I have been arrested several times; my home has been searched and raided; I have been shot at numerous times, shot in the forehead and nearly killed at one of our Friday protests! My car has been deliberately targeted and shot at! This June the soldiers have STOLEN my car and other cars from my village! My car had my WIFI and GO PRO which I used for protection! It was my only means of getting around my village and for going straight to the soldier action whenever they invaded our village! Our cars have not been returned!    ‪#‎freepalestine‬

Under pressure from Presbyterians, RE/MAX announces it will no longer profit from sales of Jewish settlements - During its 222nd biennial General Assembly, which took place in Portland, Oregon this week, the Presbyterian Church (USA) continued its strong support for Palestinian rights with the passage of a series of overtures. An overture calling on real estate company RE/MAX to stop selling properties in Israeli settlements built on occupied Palestinian land in violation of international law and official US policy passed without opposition. In addition, the General Assembly overwhelmingly approved the use of boycotts and other nonviolent measures in support of oppressed peoples throughout the world. These actions follow the historic vote of the General Assembly in 2014 to divest from companies that profit from and sustain Israel’s nearly 50-year-old military occupation of Palestinian lands, as well as the endorsement of a boycott of goods made in settlements.

Just prior to the Assembly, the CEO and co-founder of RE/MAX, Dave Liniger, announced in a letter sent to the overture advocates of the Presbytery of the Redwoods that the company has “recently taken action to ensure that RE/MAX, LLC will no longer receive any income from the sale of Jewish settlement properties in the West Bank.” >>>

Should Palestinians recognize Israel as Jewish state? - Uri Savir - In the aftermath of the European Union Foreign Ministers Council endorsing the French Initiative on June 20, Israel and the Palestinian Authority are engaged in a diplomatic battle over the EU position on permanent status.

Regarding Israel being known as a "Jewish state," a Palestinian official said Palestine would recognize whatever the international community recognizes at the United Nations, saying, "It's not for us to define Israel’s identity. It’s up to Israel."

In his talks in Brussels, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin presented Israel’s case in his unique style to the leadership of the European Parliament. There is a sense of satisfaction within the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah with the decision of the Foreign Ministers Council.

A senior Palestine Liberation Organization official told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity that policy-planning officials were now charged with exploring various policy proposals that could be adopted within the framework of the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative: “We take the Paris declaration at face value and expect a similar wording in the [soon to be published] Quartet report. We will exert pressure on the international community, especially the EU, to create a more detailed frame of reference for a two-state solution.” He told Al-Monitor that while the basic Palestinian position on all permanent status issues is well-known to the EU, thought is now being given to ways to creatively bridge gaps between Palestinian positions and Israeli concerns on two key issues: recognizing Israel as a Jewish state and security arrangements.

On the recognition issue, the PLO official said that while Palestine would not recognize Israel as a Jewish state — something that was not asked of Egypt and Jordan — Palestine would be ready to recognize Israel in whichever way Israel wishes to be defined at the United Nations, for example the “Jewish Republic of Israel.”

He said, “It’s not for us to define Israel’s identity. It’s up to Israel. We will recognize whatever the international community recognizes at the United Nations. If Israel wants to secure a more Jewish identity, it has to, first of all, give up on the occupation and grant equal rights to the Palestinians living inside Israel.'' >>>

Israel must apologize to its citizens for lying about Gaza flotilla - Now that Israel has signed a reconciliation agreement with Turkey over the Gaza flotilla incident, it must apologize to its own citizens for its lies and distortions. Five takeaways. - Yael Marom

1. A Shayetet 13 combat soldier who was among those to raid the Mavi Marmara in May 2010 gave an interview to Ma’ariv Online on Sunday, in the run-up to the reconciliation agreement between Israel and Turkey, in which he said the following: “We were sent to stop the terror flotilla, that was the mission. How can we pay compensation to terrorists who tried to murder us?”

“What kind of message does this send the other combat soldiers?” he asked. “Those who were wounded and thrown off deck by the terrorists who are now getting reparations? Will Shayetet soldiers also be compensated for the trauma they suffered?”

Yes, the soldiers who were sent by the state to take part in a violent action with no justification, who were exploited by cynical politicians — they need to demand compensation from the state for the senseless trauma they endured. For the lies and the fraud. Before all that, however, they must demand the state never send them on idiotic missions that have nothing to do with state security. >>>

Freedom Flotilla will sail until the blockade of Gaza is permanently and fully lifted - September, Cigdem Topçuoglu, whose husband was killed by Israel on board of Mavi Marmara in 2010, will be sailing with women from all over the world on the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s latest mission, the Women’s Boat to Gaza (WBG). Ms. Topçuoglu’s action symbolizes Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s (FFC) position regarding the Israeli blockade of Gaza. It must be fully and unconditionally lifted.

The Gaza Strip is the largest open air prison in the world. More than 1.8M persons have been living under an inhuman an illegal Israeli blockade since 2007. The blockade is killing Gaza. Five UN special rapporteurs found that the blockade of Gaza is illegal collective punishment.

MK Haneen Zoabi, who participated in the 2010 on board the Mavi Marmara, said that the reconciliation agreement between the two countries is a clear “admission of murder” by Israel. Ms. Zoabi called for more flotillas in order to remove “the criminal siege on Gaza”. >>>

Official: 71 Palestinian prisoners have died of torture in Israeli jails since 1967 - As many as 71 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli jails as a result of torture since 1967, Abdel Nasser Farwana, head of the documentation and studies unit at the detainees and ex-detainees committee, said.

In a statement released on Sunday to mark the International Day Against Torture, Farwana said dozens others died shortly after being released as an effect of the torture they had endured, adding that many more suffer from long-term physical and psychological disabilities.

“Israel practices a unique and atypical form of physical and psychological torture and it is the only country in the world that legalises torture in its jails and detention camps and protects its perpetrators,” he explained.

“Israel uses torture on institutional level against Palestinian and Arab detainees. According to our data, 100 per cent of the Palestinian prisoners were subjected to one form or another of torture,” he added. >>>
